How You Can Help Although we shall be using voluntary labour and we have been given all the local oak trees we require, we still need to find a considerable sum - around £380,00 for the fully fitted building. There are a number of ways (not all involving money) in which you can help us with this project: 1. Planning Permission Granted 6. Help in Kind 1. Planning Permission Granted Our first hurdle was to get Planning Permission. We are delighted that SODC has now confirmed that permission has been GRANTED. We are deeply grateful to all the people - nearly 300 of you - who took the time and trouble to express their support for this project to South Oxfordshire District Council, to help us gain planning permission and financial support. To read all the comments, click on the following link http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/ccm/planning/ApplicationDetails.jsp?REF=P10/W0035
In addition, we have now received donations of most
of
the oak we need, within 10 miles of Wallingford. Artist's impression Framing the Future is a truly
community event, involving as many local people as possible. You can
take part by sponsoring a major timber component - see the illustration
below with the components marked - and we will arrange to have your
surname carved on it for free. The cost of the beams varies from £25 for
a common rafter to £2,500 for the main west window, but there are lots
of beams around the £250-£500 area (eg Jowl Posts £500; Secondary Posts
and Top Plates £300; Principal Rafters £500). To see the full price list
may have been 'sold' since this list was last updated.)
You can help us achieve our aim by making a cash donation for which we shall be very grateful and, with your permission, we will credit your generosity on a board in the finished building. Please make cheques payable to “Wallingford Museum”. (This is for cash only - to sponsor a beam, see the instructions above). If you pay Income Tax, please
consider Gift Aiding your contribution as it will give us more money at
no cost to yourself. Download a Gift Aid Form
here.
Please download a Donation Form by clicking
here and send it with your donation
and the Gift Aid Form to If you would prefer to pay on-line, you can now do so through the Museum's new JustGiving account. For details of how to donate please follow this link www.justgiving.com/wallingfordmuseum The building will be held
together structurally by almost 1500 10” (250mm) oak pegs. If you'd like to sponsor a peg, send us an e-mail to this address gerard@galatham.demon.co.uk telling us how many pegs you'd like and we will contact you to arrange where you can pick your pegs up (they are really too heavy to post). Framing the Future is a community venture and we need lots of people to help us. One way you or your organisation can play an important role is to organise a fund-raising event of your choice and give the proceeds to the project (remember the days of Blue Peter...?) This could be anything from a cake sale, coffee morning, or Scrabble competition to a musical soirée or a medieval feast. It could involve a few individuals or 200 people in a grand marquee. Every little helps! Grant applications often demand evidence of community support, as well as matched funding. But above all, we want everyone to enjoy this project and feel it belongs to them. Since it started in 1981, Wallingford Museum has always been run and funded entirely by voluntary effort for the benefit of Wallingford. It’s your Museum and this could be a fun way to show your support. If you are interested in helping, please send an e-mail to this address judy@piepowder.co.uk with your name, the name of your organisation (if appropriate), your postal address and phone number; your e-mail address; the kind of event you have in mind and when you would like to hold it. We will send you some useful literature, blank posters for your event etc. If you run a business and can help us with the supply of materials, equipment or services (eg we have to feed 50 hungry timber framers!) please get in touch by e-mailing Stuart Dewey on museum@piepowder.co.uk Find out more by clicking on the orange buttons on the left or the headings below: Framing the Future - home page Festival of Traditional Skills
